Residential design case study Abbey Foregate

Customer had a secluded courtyard garden split levels gave the task to design a practical ‘wow factor’ garden, we were to put together a unique private space to be viewed from the house as well as enjoying being in all year round.

The design was inspired by a Grand Designs house layout where no two angles followed the same lines. Porcelain paving created most of the hard standing areas & cladding. To extend the upper area and making the house level more usable a millboard deck protruded into the garden, glass balustrade gave the open views from all angles, to soften the level change a mid-terrace of planting gave a soft separation to the lower seating and water feature area.

To surround the lower seating area raised beds wrapped around this area that over looked the pond filled with the customer’s fish. A steel rill lined with a rippled copper surface supplied a flow of water cascading into the pond existing from a blade of water dropping from within a pentagon wall feature.

Planting included hot colours giving a very Mediterranean feel at the same time all year interest with ease of maintenance for a busy client to enjoy the space when home.
